Phil’s first full length album recorded with the NYC post-punk band Certain General. November’s Heat is the album that introduced the band to a French audience and led to the their numerous tours there. While initially received well critically only in France, it’s reputation has grown in subsequent years and it is now considered to be one of the essential albums of post-punk New York City music. Phil plays lead and acoustic guitars and sings one of it’s songs “Only a Dream” (as well as co-writing and writing many of the album’s songs).
1985’s “Rock Album of the Year” Liberation (Paris, France).
Limited quantity available of the 1999 American reissue at Bandcamp (Alive Records, currently out of print).
“Certain General were a group full of talent, exploding with ideas but didn’t have any clues of patience to go the normal music “biz” way. They really were indie pioneers.” ~ Discogs
