The Woman in the Window is a song about unresolved longing, secrecy, fantasy, and shame in the big bad anonymous city. The protagonist is searching for something emotionally but can never find it and is not even sure what it is he’s looking for, or why he’s searching. He is driven by a strong emotional force.
The song is a snapshot of the human condition. It’s a “day in the life” scenario describing someone in a troubled situation on many levels… very cinematic… a film in two verses.
